I Love Feast Day

Oh finally it is Saturday. I started my day – after weighing in at 217 – with a very large piece of chocolate cake. My second breakfast was sausage, eggs, and cheese with a buttermilk biscuit. That held be over for awhile.

For lunch I took the kids to Pizza Hut. I ate half a meat lover’s pizza and 4 chicken wings. The kids each had a personal pan pizza and 2 wings. They had root beer, I had water — I really don’t care for carbonated sugar drinks.
After lunch we went to a movie – Tangled – it was very funny both kids loved it and I enjoyed it too. The popcorn was good too :)

Back at the house now, just polished off a caramel filled Cadbury chocolate bar. That was actually kind of gross and I won’t do that again. I’ve been craving fruit all week so I’ll have a bowl of mixed fruit in a minute. Strawberries, blueberries, and other colorful sweetness.

Not sure what dinner will bring. I had a nice steak last night, so maybe I’ll eat some pulled pork with BBQ sauce and homemade french fries.

I’ll post the new weight tomorrow – that really is the best part about this. Loosing weight was never so much fun!

4 Hour Body Org

Yesterday’s binge was disappointing; I just couldn’t eat as much as I wanted to. I guess my stomach is shrinking :) Last night I cooked a fresh batch of beans in the crock. 3 cups of uncooked bean makes enough for the week. My wife is inspired by my success and has decided to join my culinary adventure so this week will likely require another batch cooked up Wed or Thursday.
Here’s the recipe I used last night – taste pretty good :)
• 1 onion, peeled and chopped into 1/2 or smaller pieces
• 3 cups dry pinto beans, rinsed
• 1/4 cup jalapeno pepper, chopped (from a jar)
• 2 tablespoons minced garlic (I use fresh garlic crushed and chopped)
• 3 teaspoons salt
• 1 3/4 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
• 1 teaspoon ground cumin
• 9 cups water
1. Place the onion, rinsed beans, jalapeno, garlic, salt, pepper, and cumin into a slow cooker. Pour in the water and stir to combine. Cook on High for 8 hours, adding more water as needed. Note: if more than 1 cup of water has evaporated during cooking, then the temperature is too high.
2. Once the beans have cooked, strain them, and reserve the liquid. Mash the beans with a potato masher, adding the reserved water as needed to attain desired consistency.

1 inch in 7 days

So the results of the measurements I failed to post yesterday. waist 45 hips 42 3/4. So there is 1 inch off the gut and 1/4 inch off the hips. I think that is a good indication that not all of the weight lost has been water. I’m sure a great deal of it has been water to this point, especially considering that I have yet to exercise. I’m already planning my Saturday binge for this week…it will involve some visits to buffets. Tim recommends taking pictures of everything you eat rather than a written food journal. I think I’ll start doing that this Saturday…look for some interesting photo’s as I binge my way through the day!

14 pounds in 11 Days

I’ve never lost weight like this before. Today is the beginning of the 12th day and I am down a full 14 pounds. I’ll break out the tape later and see where the inches are, but I know my belt is down one notch so that is a good indicator.

If you are going to do this, I highly recommend you get a crock pot and make your own re-fried beans or lentil mix. The store bought versions have way too much fat in them. Also, by making them yourself you have control over what flavors, spices etc.

In case you are wondering about what kind of insane cardio I must be doing to drop 14 pounds in 11 days…fact is I have not started the exercises yet. I was going to start them Monday, but here it is Wednesday and I have not done one exercise yet. I think I’ll start them next week…

The Day After

The hardest thing on this eating plan so far was eating breakfast this morning. I still feel full from yesterday. I had one egg and some spinach. I couldn’t eat the re-fried beans. Maybe later.

Of course before I ate, I stepped on the scale to see what the damage from yesterday’s binge would be. I was expecting to have gained a few pounds of water weight if not more.

The verdict…I actually lost 2 lbs. Go figure. Eat more in one day than many people eat in a week, break every rule in the book, bread, candy, dairy etc. and still loose two pounds. This is awesome.

I’ll take some measurements Wednesday to see if there is any change in the massive mid-girth. After just one week I don’t expect huge results, but even 1/4 inch would be welcome.

Feast Day

ok, I am ready for another week on the stricter guidelines after today. Holy cow, I have to tell you my day started with some hesitation about feasting. This is odd because all week I was looking forward to pigging out today. Anyway, I faced the day like a true soldier. Got up this morning and ate a regular breakfast of eggs, spinach, and re-fried beans. Then the gorging began. In true Roman fashion, I started with some homemade chocolate chip cookies I’d been resisting all week. Then there was the cadberry bar santa left in my stocking. Yes, I ate the whole thing and chased it with a second one. Then it was time for breakfast with my parents and brother’s visiting family.

Cinnamon rolls, bread, fresh fruit bowl (I covered mine with whipped cream just to make sure it was decadent enough). I was really stuffed at this point. A week with no bread and suddenly all of this was just too filling.

About an hour later though I had a second helping of whipped cream and fruit. A little while later I had some more chocolate chip cookies, a piece of pie, and a couple glasses of homemade eggnog (cream, brandy, bourbon, rum, and of course eggs).

Everyone else ate lunch, but I was too stuffed and I knew dinner would be early, so I just snacked on some more cinnamon rolls.

Dinner was a prime rib, mashed potatoes, asparagus, cherry pie, cheese cake, wine and coffee. I had two very thick slices of prime rib, man it was good. I regretted the second slice but it was sooo tasty. I had to wait a bit before I could eat the cheese cake and cherry pie, but eventually I had a large serving of each.

So the feasting is done. I am really looking forward to eating “normal” again. Tomorrow will be mixed veggies and eggs sprinkled with roasted paprika. I need to make more re-fried beans tomorrow too.

I’ll weigh myself in the morning and see what the residual from today’s eating is. According to Tim I could be several pounds heavier but should lose the weight and more by Tuesday.

So What Do You Eat Following the 4 hour Body?

One of the best things about this weight loss plan is that you can pretty much eat anything you want. Sure there are some guidelines, but you only have to follow them 6 days a week. The 7th day is feast day; Eat what ever you want as much as you want.

I timed when I started this plan so tomorrow is my feast day – Christmas day – what a gift.

The rules you follow on the other six days are fairly simple:

  1. Eat nothing white -bread, rice, pasta, milk you know the drill
  2. Eat no dairy – no cheese, not even a little
  3. Eat no fruit and drink no fruit juices

Of course on the seventh day you can eat all the dairy, fruit, and bread you want – so when you crave one of these foods, just make a note to add it to your feast day menu.

I don’t know about you, but I find these rules very easy to live with. Just knowing that I can eat what ever I want on Saturday makes this whole process a lot easier to stick with.

You might be wondering about the feast day and how that will affect your overall progress. Well Tim says it will help your progress. I’m counting on that, but only personal experience will tell. Tomorrow is my first feast day. When I re-measure and weigh next Wednesday we’ll know if it hurt, helped, or had no impact. Until then, have a very Merry Christmas!

4 Hour Body

I just read Timothy Ferriss’ book, The 4 Hour Body. What an incredible read. I love his writing style and the book is jam packed with great information. I recommend the book for anyone who is planning a New Year’s resolution of weight loss or body transformation.

I have been following the advice from the first three Chapters. The focus on chapters two and three is fat loss. I am started last Saturday weighing it at 232 pounds a solid 60 pounds over my ideal weight. So far the plan is easy to follow so far and I am down 7 lbs at this point – today being Thursday I am quite impressed.

I don’t think I’ll post before and after pics as that would just gross you all out, but I will post a record of measurements of interest. Waist and hips were 46 and 43 respectively when I finally measured them yesterday. I’ll measure again next Wed so we can compare.

If you want a quick hint on two things you can do right away, here they are:
1) eat breakfast within 30 minutes of waking. Make it a protein and veggie breakfast. I’ve been eating spinach, or mixed veggies with 4-5 eggs and a side dish of homemade re-fried beans.
2) don’t eat anything white during the week- no rice, potatoes, bread etc.
